Storing your breast milk is a very easy and convenient way to provide your baby with a healthy and nutritional meal. Stored breast milk is safe for your child, however there are some important precautions that you must take in order to ensure that your attempts at breast milk storage go well.

Preventing Breast Milk Spoilage 

Your breast milk contains good bacteria which aide in fighting off the germs which can lead to your breast milk spoiling. One of your main goals is to make sure that your baby receives the freshest and most nutritionally potent dosage of milk with each feeding. Below are some simple things that you can do to ensure that your breast milk storage goes safely.

• Use a antibacterial soap or wipe to clean your hands prior to pumping and handling your stored breast milk

• While breast milk can be maintained at room temperature for up to 10 hours it is advisable to store any unused breast milk immediately in a refrigerator or Freezer space. ( Breast milk can be stored in a typical freezer for up to  2 weeks).

• Breast Milk should be Stored in sturdy plastic containers with secure lids.

• Do not refreeze milk that has already been thawed. It is permissible to refrigerate the milk which was previously thawed for up to 24 hours.

• When thawing do not microwave stored milk. Instead, stored breast milk can be thawed under warm running water.
