What is Tooth Decay?

Tooth Decay is a break down of the tooth's enamel over a period of time. When Tooth Decay goes unchecked a hole (known as a cavity) will remain in the decayed portion of the tooth.

What Causes Tooth Decay in children?

Tooth Decay can be caused by many factors such as: Mothers Diet during pregnancy, Diet of the Child, Baby Bottle Mouth Syndrome, Dental Hygiene, and Heredity just to name a few. One very Strong factor that can cause Tooth Decay in Children is the result of a high sugar intake. This can occur in children as young as 6 to 12 months of age and it can happen very un-expectantly.

When a baby sleeps with their bottle in their mouth the sugar from the juice and the bottle's nipple will settle around their upper teeth. You can avoid this type of Tooth decay by simply making sure that your baby does not go to sleep while consistently sucking on the bottle... now we at teething-teeth.com recommend breast feeding, but that's a topic we'll touch on in our breast feeding section (smile).

My grandmother was from the country, and if you know anyone from the country they have a way of saying things that are a little different from city folks; but when they speak you understand exactly what they mean

If I would do something wrong to get my grandmother upset she would say something like this... "If you don't straighten up I'll be on you like White on Rice! Translation: The color White is on Rice as The Belt would be on my bottom if I didn't straighten up. What does this have to do with Tooth Decay you might ask? Translation: The color White is on rice as The Belt would be on my bottom if I didn't straighten up as Sugar will lead to Tooth Decay in our babies if we don't catch it early.

The Bacteria which causes Tooth Decay thrives on sugar. Please do anything that you can  to proactively lesson the residual sugar that is left over after your child eats sweets.
