The Tooth Fairy
At some point in time every parent will likely here these words... "Mommy, Mommy, my tooth is loose", and with these 6 words the parent will be thrust into a search for ways to help their child prepare for the impending loss of their first tooth. The child will have concerns and questions about many things... they may ask questions like... Mommy, when will my tooth come out? Mommy, will my tooth hurt when it comes out? Mommy how soon will my new tooth comes? Inevitably the conversation will turn will turn to that oft asked question... Mommy, where did the tooth fairy come from?
The tooth fairy has become an American tradition... only overshadowed by tradition myth rivals Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny. And like those tradition myths The Tooth Fairy is not only celebrated in the U.S. but in other countries as well. The tooth fairy tradition is celebrated differently in each of these countries.
In our research we found a very good book that actually details the tooth fairy story and how it has been adapted in each country. Each country has their own way of explaining what happens to the tooth when it comes out. The name of the book that we found was called "Throw your tooth on the roof, tooth traditions from around the world." In this book the origins of the tooth fairy are explained in great detail.
We think that it is a very good book that you can use to educate your child to the truth about what happens to their tooth. Some parents may want to embrace the tradition of the tooth fairy, and for those parent this book will be a good read for both you and your child.
